Sensex zooms over 200 pts, Nifty nears 8000

Equity Tips
The Sensex is up 233.40 points or 0.9 percent at 26809.05, and the Nifty is up 70.05 points or 0.9 percent at 7997.80. About 453 shares have advanced, 81 shares declined, and 6 shares are unchanged.

The Indian rupee has opened at 61.15 a dollar, up 16 paise compared to previous day's closing value of 61.31 per dollar on hopes of strong trade in equity market.

Indian markets are expected to trade strong, though we may see some profit booking at higher levels.”He expects the rupee to gain as indices in Asian markets have already started the day on a strong note. “The USD-INR pair is expected to trade in the range of 60.80-61.80 a dollar.

BASE METAL WRAP:
Copper lead most industrial metals lower after factory and retail-sales data signalled further slowing in China, the world’s biggest user.

ENERGY WRAP:
West Texas Intermediate and Brent crude declined for a second day as China’s industrial output expanded at the weakest pace since the global financial crisis.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP:
Gold rallied from an eight-month low, snapping three days of losses, on speculation that reduced prices may spur purchases before the Federal Reserve begins a two-day policy meeting.

·        Apollo Tyres at record high, to set up new plant in Hungary

Shares of Apollo Tyres is setting up a new plant in Hungary at an investment of Rs 3,450 crore and the investment aid given by the country's government has been cleared by European Commission.

·        Tyre stocks gain as weak rubber, oil prices to boost margins

Shares of tyre companies were up 1-3% as lower raw material costs on account of weak natural rubber and declining crude oil prices would boost margins going forward.

·        Shares of five new F&O entrants gain

Share prices of five new entrants to the future and options (F&O) segment gained. NSE through a circular said that F&O contracts on Eicher Motors, Motherson Sumi, SKS Microfinance, Mindtree and TVS Motor would be available starting September 10, 2014.

·        Indusind Bank expands presence across New Delhi

Indusind Bank Ltd has opened a new branch across New Delhi. The Bank plans to further strengthen its presence and customer reach in the country’s capital with more branches in the coming quarters.

INDIAN BENCHMARK open flat amid sluggish trades among major Asian markets. Further, power and metal stocks will be in focus as the Supreme Court is scheduled today to announce its decision on coal block allocations.

FURTHER, Cipla will be in focus after the company entered into a commercial collaboration with S&D Pharma in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Aditya Birla Chemicals Limited has acquired Jayshree Chemicals Ltd's caustic soda business for 2.12 billion rupees.

Trend in FII flows: The FIIs were net buyers of Rs 192cr in the cash segment on Monday while the DIIs were net sellers of Rs. 508cr, as per the provisional figures released by the NSE.

BASE METAL WRAP: Nickel climbed to the highest in almost four weeks after a Philippine lawmaker filed a bill to require all mined minerals to be processed before export.

ENERGY WRAP: Natural gas prices edged lower on Wednesday after weather forecasting models continued to call for milder temperatures to move across the U.S. this weekend, which should cut into the need for air conditioning and thus reduce demand for the commodity at the nation's thermal power plants. Crude oil futures rebounded from the previous session's steep declines on Wednesday, after Kiev said it has reached a deal with Russia for a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP: Gold advanced for a second day on speculation that prices near the lowest level since June may encourage purchases as investors assessed tensions in Ukraine and the outlook for higher U.S. borrowing costs.

•    Maruti at new high, Aug sales ride on Celerio, Dzire, Ritz

Shares of Maruti Suzuki touched a new high, up 3 percent intraday on strong growth in August sales numbers boosted by compact cars segment. India's largest car maker sold 1,10,776 lakh units in August, up 27 percent compared to 87,323 units in same period last year and up 9 percent compared to 1.01 lakh units in previous month.

•    IRB Infrastructure falls after Citi downgrade

Shares of IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd fall after Citigroup downgraded the stock to sell from buy.

•    M&M sold 35,175 units in August

M&M has announced that it has sold 35,175 units during August 2014, as against 37,897 units during August 2013. The company's domestic sales was at 3,145 units.

•    TVS Motor Company August 2014 sales grows by 46%

TVS Motor Company recorded 46% growth in sales during the month of August 2014, with total sales increasing from 155,532 units recorded in the month of August 2013 to 227,482 units in the month of August 2014.

•    Tata Motors enters Algeria with a range of passenger cars

Tata Motors in association with SPA Elsecom has setup dealerships at Algiers and Oran, with further plans underway to establish 10 additional sales and service centers, to cover important regions, by the end of this year.

•    RIL to save $450 mn/yr by importing ethane from US

Reliance Industries will save about USD 450 million annually by importing 1.5 million tons ethane from US for its petrochemical plant. Imported Ethane will substitute its current propane imports and a portion of naphtha used for ethylene production.

•    Adani buys Australia coal mine royalty rights from Linc

Adani Enterprises has agreed to pay Australian dollar 155 million (USD 145 million) to Linc Energy to buy out the Australian firm's rights to future royalties from Adani's huge.

•    Tata Comm up on reports of foreign brokerage

Shares of Tata Communications gained over 4%, touching, on reports that a foreign brokerage has re-initiated coverage on the stock with a buy rating. The company is back on growth and profitability track and its core business turnaround will be led by enterprise data.

ENERGY WRAP: West Texas Intermediate traded near a three-day high before a government report forecast to show crude stockpiles dropped for a second week in the U.S., the world’s biggest oil consumer. Brent was steady in London.

COMMODITY MARKET STRATEGY 25 AUGUST 2014


BASE METAL WRAP:  
Copper in Shanghai swung between gains and losses near the highest in almost four weeks after stockpiles fell the most since May and before housing data in the U.S., the second-biggest consumer of industrial metals.

ENERGY WRAP
Brent fell for a second day amid speculation that Middle East crude supplies will remain safe amid turmoil across the region. West Texas Intermediate was steady after a technical issue disrupted electronic trading.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP: 
Investors are exiting the gold market on speculation that signs of sustained U.S. economic growth will push the Federal Reserve closer to raising interest rates, cutting demand for bullion as an inflation hedge.

INDIAN BENCHMARKS closes marginally higher… PSU banks gains


INDIAN EQUITY BENCHMARKS 
ended marginally higher led by gains in bank shares after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said that the government was working towards bringing in more professionalism in the functioning of banks and improving risk management, amid the backdrop of the recent scams in some public sector banks.


·         Shares of Dr. Reddy's Laboratories ended lower by 1.5% after report stated that the company was in talks with a US regulator over allegations it violated packaging rules for some prescription drugs sold there between 2008 and 2012.

·         Further, Zee Entertainment rose over a percent as it is all set to replace United Spirits in CNX Nifty with effect from the September 19.

The crucial resistance for Nifty is now seen at 7920 and above this 7945. Support for the immediate term is now placed at 7855 and next support will be 7780.

BASE METAL WRAP: London copper fell on Tuesday to near six-week lows as improving supply and renewed tension between Ukraine and Russia combined with a summer lull to curb investors' appetite for risky assets.

ENERGY WRAP: West Texas Intermediate fell amid speculation that U.S. oil demand is slowing after a government report showed weekly crude inventories expanded for the time since June. Brent dropped in London.

·        Tata Steel Q1 profit plunges 70% on provision, higher tax

Tata Steel has reported a 70.4 percent decline in consolidated net profit at Rs 337.3 crore for the April-June quarter, impacted by provision for impairment of non-current assets, higher tax expenses and interest cost. Profit in the year-ago period was Rs 1,139 crore.

·        Crompton Greaves sells Kanjurmarg land to Runwal Group

Crompton Greaves has sold its Kanjurmarg land parcel to Runwal Group for Rs1,015 crore. The 34-acre land parcel has been on the block for a while now. The deal pegs per acre land value at Rs 30 crore. Crompton Greaves has been looking for funds as its debt stands at Rs2,200-2,500 crore.

·        Siemens posts Q3 profit at Rs 13 cr, revenue falls 10%

Siemens has reported the third quarter (April-June) net profit at Rs 13 crore on lower revenue and weak operational performance. It had posted a loss of Rs 48.8 crore in the year-ago period.

·        Hindustan Copper Q1 net profit down by 29% (YoY)

Hindustan Copper has announced the results for the quarter ended June 30, 2014. Net profit of the company slipped by 28.91% to Rs13.20 crore Vs Rs18.57 crore YoY. Total Income increased by 28.15% to Rs314.94 crore Vs Rs245.75 crore YoY.
