DLF tumbled 9 percent as worried investors are offloading the stock after the Haryana government cancelled the 350-acre land allotment made to the company in 2010.

·        PNB undertakes Rs500 crore fund raising

PNB announced that the Bank is raising Rs. 500 crore Tier-II Basel III compliant Bonds at an annual coupon of 9.35% on Private placement basis from 04 September 2014 to 09 September 2014 through five arrangers.

·        TVS Motor gains after BofAML ups target to Rs 235

Shares of TVS Motor were up 5% following a buy rating on the stock by global brokerage BofA Merrill Lynch because of strong business prospects and at current levels valuations are attractive to its peers.

INDIAN BENCHMARKS surges…Nifty past 8,000 to record high

INDIAN EQUITY BENCHMARKS surged with nifty past the psychologically important 8,000 level for the first time gained after better-than-expected quarterly GDP data.

•    Voltas gained 2 percent as Bank of America Merrill Lynch reiterates buy rating on the stock with an increased target price of Rs 305 per share.

•    Further, Bharti Airtel climbed 1.7 percent after Airtel Network Kenya has acquired 2.7 million subscribers of Essar telecommunications Kenya.


The crucial resistance for Nifty is now seen at 8035 and above this 8070. Support for the immediate term is now placed at 7980 and next support will be 7920.

INDIAN BENCHMARK open marginally higher amid firm global cues. Further, markets are likely to remain volatile in the latter half of the trading session with expiry of August derivative contracts today.

FURTHER, Piramal Enterprises is rejigging its research and development activities with a focus on molecules that are at an advanced stage of development. DLF will continue to be under pressure after the Supreme Court on Wednesday directed DLF to deposit Rs 630 crore in the registry within three months.

Trend in FII flows: The FIIs were net buyers of Rs 192cr in the cash segment on Wednesday while the DIIs were net sellers of Rs. 236cr, as per the provisional figures released by the NSE.

ITC fell nearly 3% on reports the Centre is planning to introduce tougher provisions under law to curb tobacco consumption in the country.

Shares of Tata Motors jumped 3 percent, riding on its Jaguar Land Rover July sales number. The luxury car business sold 39467 units (up 12.2 percent) as compared to 35162 units in the same period last fiscal.

Shares of Tata Power jumped over 4 percent as state electricity regulator Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has granted 25 years distribution licence to Tata Power for supplying power in city and suburban areas.

  • Hindalco Q1 profit drops 31% on high fuel, finance cost
Hindalco Industries missed street expectations with the first quarter net profit falling 30.9 percent year-on-year to Rs 327.5 crore dented by higher power and fuel, finance, and raw material costs. Profit in the corresponding quarter of last fiscal was Rs 474.1 crore.
  • Voltas jumps after strong Q1 results
Voltas surged 7.58% after consolidated net profit jumped 165.85% to Rs 109 crore on 9.36% growth in sales to Rs 1752 crore in Q1 June 2014 over Q1 June 2013.
  • PFC Q1 net profit up 21% YoY

·        Apollo Tyres Q1 net profit jumps 37%, EBITDA disappoints

Apollo Tyres disappointed with operational performance. Net profit grew by 37.4 percent to Rs 228 crore in the quarter ended June 2014 aided by other income. Profit in the year-ago period was Rs 165.9 crore.

·        Amara Raja Batteries Q1 net up 8% on strong revenue growth

Amara Raja Batteries reporting a 8.3 percent growth in profit after tax at Rs 106 crore in April-June quarter of current financial year 2014-15 driven by higher sales growth despite higher depreciation cost. Profit in the year-ago period was Rs 97.8 crore.

·        Adani Ports Q1 net profit jumps 36% at Rs 568 cr

Adani Ports Q1FY15 (April-June) consolidated net profit jumped 36 percent at Rs 568 crore versus Rs 417.5 crore in a year ago period. The consolidated total income was down 14.6 percent at Rs 1,261.6 crore versus Rs 1,478.4 crore, Y-o-Y.

·        IDBI Bank Q1 profit falls 66% on lower other income, NII

IDBI Bank  reported  net profit in April-June (Q1FY15) quarter plunged 66 percent to Rs 105 crore on account of lower other income and net interest income but supported by lower provisions. Profit in the year-ago period was Rs 307 crore.

·        Cairn may get 10-year extension for Rajasthan block

Cairn India is planning to get a 10-year extension for its license to explore and produce oil and gas from the prolific Rajasthan block.

·        Ajanta Pharma tumbles after Q1 earnings

Ajanta Pharma slumped 9.22% after net profit surged 80% to Rs 59 crore on 32% growth in revenue from operations to Rs 287 crore in Q1 June 2014 over Q1 June 2013.

·        Bajaj Auto receives order for 40,000 Discovers from Sri Lanka

Bajaj Auto has received an order for 40,000 Discover motorcycles from the Sri Lanka government. The management expects the exports which stood at 1.69 lakh for the month of July to rise to between 1.85 to 1.90 units in the coming few months.

BASE METAL WRAP: Copper rose on Monday as a rally in China's stock markets indicated improving prospects for demand in the world's largest consumer of the industrial metal, although growing global supplies kept investors cautious.

ENERGY WRAP: West Texas Intermediate crude traded near the highest price in three days before supply data that will signal the strength of fuel demand in the U.S., the world’s biggest oil consumer. Brent in London was steady.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP: Gold held below $1,300 an ounce as Portugal’s bailout of Banco Espirito Santo SA reduced concern the lender’s crisis may spread and tension in Gaza eased, damping demand for a haven. Silver rose from a six-week low.

Petronet LNG Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs. 1566.00 mn for the quarter ended June 30, 2014 as compared to Rs. 2253.20 mn for the quarter ended June 30, 2013.Total Income has increased from Rs. 84594.40 mn for the quarter ended June 30, 2013 to Rs. 101961.40 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2014.

• Ipca Laboratories Q1 net profit at Rs1454.90 mn

Ipca Laboratories Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs. 1454.90 mn for the quarter ended June 30, 2014 as compared to Rs. 717.70 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2013. Total Income has increased from Rs. 8100.10 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2013 to Rs. 9422.50 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2014.

• OBC turns volatile after Q1 results

Oriental Bank of Commerce rose 0.73% after net profit rose 3.15% to Rs 364.54 crore on 6.09% growth in total income to Rs 5576.02 crore in Q1 June 2014 over Q1 June 2013.

• Tata Power slips in volatile trade

Tata Power Company slipped 0.37%, with the stock reversing initial gain triggered by the company's subsidiary deciding to repay bonds worth $450 million ahead of its due date.

Rate sensitives gain ahead of RBI's policy review tomorrow

were firm in early noon trades supported by gains in interest sensitives ahead of RBI's policy review tomorrow. At 1205 hrs, the was up 132 points at 25,613 and the gained 50 points to trade at 7,652.

In the broader market, the smallcap index outperformed the BSE benchmark with gains of 1%. Meanwhile, the midcap index was up 0.6%.

The rupee is trading at 60.90/91 versus Friday's close of 61.18/19, tracking losses in the dollar compared with most other Asian currencies. The pair is seen in 60.80 to 61.20 range during the session.

Health Care index down 0.2% was the only sectoral index in red.
Consumer Durables, Auto, IT indices were up 1-2.5%.
Banking index up 0.5% have come off day highs.
HDFC twins, Sun Pharma, Coal India, Bharti Airtel and Cipla down 0.8-1.7% were the losers among Sensex-30.

BASE METAL WRAP: London copper was a tad firmer on Monday after weak U.S. employment data soothed concerns that the Federal Reserve would soon begin to draw back liquidity that has cushioned demand for metals.

ENERGY WRAP: West Texas Intermediate crude traded near the lowest price in six months before data that will signal the strength of the economy in the U.S., the world’s biggest oil consumer. Brent was steady in London.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP: A slew of worries fueled by U.S. and European data, Argentina's default on its debts and conflict in Ukraine and in the Middle East sent investors rushing to safe-harbor gold positions on Friday.

DLF Ltd has posted a net profit/(loss) after taxes, minority interest and share in profit/(loss) of associates of Rs. 1277.70 mn for the quarter ended June 30, 2014 as compared to Rs. 1811.90 mn for the quarter ended June 30, 2013.

COMMODITY MARKET STRATEGY 01 AUGUST 2014


BASE METAL WRAP: London copper eased on Friday after a rout on Wall Street over Argentinian default soured risk appetite and ahead of a deluge of economic indicators out later in the session, including an assessment of activity in China's vast manufacturing sector.

ENERGY WRAP: West Texas Intermediate fell for a fifth day after capping the biggest monthly decline in more than two years amid signs of weaker fuel demand in the U.S., the world’s biggest oil consumer. Brent was steady in London.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP: Gold headed for a third weekly loss in the longest run of declines since September as U.S. employment data may add to signs that the world’s largest economy is gaining traction.

Weak global cues drag Sensex lower by 150 pts

Markets started the August series on a negative note with the Sensex down over 150 points owing to weak global cues. Selling pressure was visible across the sectors.

At 0920 hrs, the Sensex was down 159 points at 25,736 and the Nifty was down 55 points at 7,666.

The broader markets were no exception to the trend. The mid and smallcap indices dropped 0.7% in opening trades.

Sectors & Stocks

Power, Realty and capital Goods indices down 1% each were the major sectoral losers.

IT, Auto, Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas and Bankex indices slipped a little over 0.5% each.

Only six of the 30 stocks were in green on the Sensex.

Bharti Airtel up 2.5% continued its uptrend on reports that the company will sell more infrastructure in Africa. This is to reduce debt and cut capital expenditure on passive infrastructure.

Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Cipla, Coal India and Hero MotoCorp up 0.2-0.7% rounded off the gainers list.

The market breadth was weak on the BSE. 906 stocks declined while 483 stocks advanced.

MORNING MAIL TODAY


INDIAN BENCHMARK were trading with marginal gains led by Infosys after the IT major's first quarter numbers were in-line with expectations.

FURTHER, Infosys today reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 2,886 crore compared to Rs 2,992 crore sequentially, a decrease of 3.6%. On a y-o-y basis, the company posted a 21.6% increase in its net profit. GMR Infrastructure rose after the company has approved the issue and allotment of 46.88 crore shares to eligible qualified institutional buyers at the issue price of Rs 31.50 per share.

Trend in FII flows: The FIIs were net buyers of Rs 192cr in the cash segment on Thursday while the DIIs were net buyers of Rs. 4cr, as per the provisional figures released by the NSE.
